I love books, and I respect the amount of effort that goes into writing one. So while I won't recommend a book I didn't enjoy reading, I certainly won't go out of my way to tear it apart. The aim of this site is to connect readers with their next great read, so I will always try to point out the positives, while also discussing why I personally did or did not like the book.
My review style is conversational, focusing mainly on the plot and the characters, with a bit about writing style. If you're looking for a discussion on the literary merit of a particular novel, this is probably not the place for you. If you're an avid reader, interested in hearing what another avid reader has to say about a book you're thinking about picking up, then I'm your girl.
For this reason, my rating system is not based on stars. Instead, I chose a scale closer to the one I use when friends ask if I would recommend a particular read.
All Consuming: Just get your hands on this book! I loved this book and will probably read it again. Books with this rating are, in my opinion, worth the money, and will have a place on my bookshelf for years to come. Hopefully they'll find a place on yours too.
A Good Read: I enjoyed the book, and will read more by this author. Books with this rating are books that I think are worth putting on your "to read" list. Right after the all consuming ones!
Worth A Look: These books are just that, worth a look, and there's nothing wrong with that! Books in this category are probably what I would call a good beach book. Easy to read, with a juicy storyline of characters, or in a genre that I might not regularly read but found myself enjoying.
Heavy Page Turner: I tried to like it, but it just wasn't for me. I refer to "heavy page turner" books as ones that I really, really, want to like, but for whatever reason, just didn't do it for me.
DNF: These are books that I didn't finish. I have a horrible compulsion to finish any book I start, so if I didn't finish a book then it REALLY wasn't for me. That doesn't mean the book is bad, or that nobody should read it, it just means that it didn't do it for me, personally, and that I felt so little attachment to the characters/plot that I didn't care if I ever found out how it ended. There shouldn't be many of these!
